The first experience in anything can never be forgotten for it stays close to your heart for the rest of your life. EBSO has been one of my first national-level quizzes after joining MBBS, so it is very close to my heart. I heard about EBSO through my anatomy department, and I registered for it to know where I stand in India. I was very delighted to know that it included all basic sciences as it went hand in hand with my college academics as well. The questions were not weighted towards testing one's memory, but they tested one’s understanding of the pre-clinical concepts as many questions were oriented clinically.
It truly was such a pleasure to participate in Elsevier Basic Science Olympiad, more so when listed in the top 30. It actually is a great opportunity that Elsevier presents us with which helps in enrichment of our minds, gives us a drive, and a boost of confidence. It helped me explore new boundaries and gave me a chance to test my academic skills primarily amongst others and at the end of it all, even if one doesn't win they definitely walk away with a splendid experience. Also, the awards after both the rounds of Olympiad was such a great help both academically and otherwise. The very idea of conducting this competition inspires students all over the country to awaken their competitive spirits and gives them a rest from their scheduled lives. Hence, grateful to Elsevier and hope they continue organizing such events and I personally urge people to participate, also while looking forward for more such participations myself.
The Elsevier Basic Science Olympiad was one of the most memorable moments in my books. The idea to bring together medical students from all over the country to compete against each other was massively refreshing from the monotonous life of a medical student and it gave us something to look forward to other than our daily chores. It gave me a realization of where I stand with my current academic knowledge and winning it motivated me even more to continue working hard and fine-tune my academic rhythm. It's a competition that not only tests your academic knowledge but also your extra-curricular skills, giving you the taste and the much-needed experience to participate in such future competitions. I hope in future we get to see more such all India Olympiads being conducted for different years. Hats off to Elsevier for what they are doing in the medical fraternity!
Being a zygote medical-student, it was indeed an exciting time in EBSO steps, given the amount of exposure via questionnaire as well as the video-shoot. In the ordinary way of 1st year MBBS, some extraordinary and out-of-the-box stuffs, like EBSO, bridge the gaps. I would definitely recommend being a participant in this meticulously planned Olympiad, because there is everything to gain and nothing to lose. The access to Complete Anatomy by Elsevier app is a wonderful prize, bringing gross anatomy into your mobile anytime.Go back by a decade and you won't even be able to imagine learning dissection on a phone! Furthermore, learning via questions is one of the very underrated ways, and this platform takes us a step forward to it. After all, a well-followed brand, Elsevier, has a well-followed and must-follow setup for 1st year medicos under the banner of EBSO. Thanks a ton for this experience!
Being a Participant of EBSO 2021, as well as among the Top 30 National Winners was a matter of great honor for me. The Olympiad tests your ability to apply what you have learnt in the First Year, and challenges you to place yourself among the top students in the country! I'd like to thank Elsevier for this wonderful opportunity, which allowed me to augment my medical knowledge and push myself beyond my limits.
The questions of the test were all great and required thinking about more than just the textbook lines, and the video making for second round was an amazing and memorable time for me.
Our professors encouraged us to participate in EBSO. This quiz was one of the sources that kept me motivated to study during the lockdown. The questions were clinically oriented, precise and well structured. It emphasized the importance of basic science in deciphering clinical problems. I would like to thank Elsevier for organizing this quiz and giving us an opportunity to participate in it.
I came to know About EBSO 2020 via my College and my seniors had also told us about the competition earlier - So i was looking forward to participate.I like taking up quizzes because they help to improve the understanding and knowledge , also this was a wonderful nationwide contest which provided us with a very good challenge to compete with alike people across the nation - so it served as an ideal platform
I found EBSO a great initiative to bring up good competitive spirit among MBBS UGs in this Pandemic. I was really excited to participate in the quiz and would like to do it again. The best thing I found was the thought behind putting up questions in such a way, that its fair to everyone and its more clinically oriented.I also, would like to encourage every student to participate in such great initiatives to get experience and inspiration to get a good grip of the subjects. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Its highly appreciated.
I learned about Elsevier Basic Sciences Olympiad 2020 from my friends. After looking into the details of the competition, I decided to give it a try to test and evaluate my knowledge of first-year subjects. The kind and quality of questions were commendable and were designed in a way that one with sound knowledge of the subjects and the ability to correlate would find fascinating. The essay question was intriguing and focused on the status of the medical field in face of the COVID pandemic, which I think is a very important topic of discussion. All in all, EBSO aided in developing subject expertise and skills expected from a medico to a considerable extent and I thank Elsevier for it. I highly recommend first-year students participate in it and enrich their knowledge.
I got to know about the EBSO exam through my college. I saw the pamphlet of this exam on my college notice board, due to which I got interested to participate in it. The thing which motivated me to participate was to see my skills and where I can improve on them. EBSO gave me a platform on a national level to analyze my performance and compare it with the intelligent minds of the nation.I loved the whole process from preparation of it till the results. However, the most interesting part to me was essay writing in the second round. I found it quite intriguing as it was concerned with the ongoing COVID 19 situation. I strongly encourage students to participate in EBSO to strengthen their skills and knowledge.
I got to know about EBSO 2020 from social media and was really excited about it. There were various rounds which could be given according to our chosen date and time that made it quite flexible. Most of the questions were clinically oriented and tested our overall understanding of the concepts which I feel was the best part. I would recommend all my juniors to participate as it not only gives a paramount thrill to push your limits with a timer and negative marking but also gives you an orientation on how to approach your texts
I was delighted to participate at this national level competition as it was being organised by the pioneer research organization viz Elsevier. I was equally concerned to judge my performance at national level. Moreover, I was anxious to learn something new and add on to my knowledge as well as experience. In the entire journey of various rounds of the EBSO competition, I really appreciate the clinical questions which were made out of preclinical subjects. In other words, it was introspection to the depth of one's knowledge and clarity of concept. Above all, it is worth mentioning to discuss the descriptive question in the final round.
EBSO has been a very special part of my journey through 1st year in medical college. It provided me with a reason to work and improve on my concepts in anatomy, physiology biochemistry. I had a lot of fun understanding the subjects and applying the knowledge to the challenging questions put by the examiners. I got to know about EBSO when the brochure was shared in my college group and immediately decided to participate to see where I stand. The best part about EBSO were the 2 rounds well spaced from each other. Qualifying the first round was exhilarating but at the same time I knew that 2nd round was going to be tougher as I would competing against the best minds in our country. This motivated me to work harder and having a goal in mind makes you push through your limits. It was an amazing experience and a great start to my journey through medical college. I would recommend everyone to participate in EBSO and work towards becoming better doctors for if your basics are clear then finding ways through challenging obstacles becomes easy and there is no better way to test your basic sciences than EBSO.
